Contrast is king. Ultimately contrast reveals structure, and the reason they are less evident seen with the naked eye is inadequate contrast.
The most contrast you can bring to bear while shooting the better.
A whole category of images simple amount to how well lighting is applied to a fairly straight-forward composition.
In this case, I cropped out some segments lacking energy, created great asymmetry of the negative spaces, while preserves enough top negative space to create depth.
I recall having limited options for lighting in this case because I was shooting under a bench and the rails were in the way.
